A Midtown associate role, an Oakland County specialist appointment and an Ann Arbor medical director search need different briefs. Start with the hospital address, county, clinical resources and schedule, then agree the search with BEGHR.
Specify independent procedures, appointment capacity and doctor overlap. If recruiting a new graduate, name the mentor and protect teaching time; Michigan’s rules describe a one-year senior student limited license that requires a named Michigan-licensed supervisor.
Plan an associate search →Define the discipline, required credentials, shift pattern and resources already available. Explain referral communication, overnight staffing and inpatient handover, and name the technicians who support the shift.
Scope a specialist role →List the hospitals and decision authority. Separate clinical workload from protected time for coaching, clinical standards and team development, and set out how delegation to technicians is supervised.
Define a medical director role →Use the actual work address, the county and any additional facilities. Do not present an Ann Arbor or Macomb County vacancy as interchangeable with a Detroit hospital. A rotating role should state which days belong to which site and whether movement between sites happens between working days or during a clinical shift.
Choose the clinical and operational interviewers, confirm the employer-approved package and identify who can authorize an offer. Use the same role-related criteria for every candidate and give one person responsibility for feedback. Confirm the candidate’s Michigan license status before a start date is set. Review the hiring brief and candidate scorecard before outreach.
This is permanent placement for employers. Your practice hires the selected candidate directly. An immediate relief shift needs a separate arrangement; this service does not promise a locum available today. Job seekers can start with BEGHR’s veterinary placement page; the pricing form here is for employer inquiries.
The Michigan Public Health Code sets a three-year license cycle for veterinarians and veterinary technicians, and the Michigan Administrative Rules require veterinarians to complete at least 45 hours of continuing education in the three years before renewal, including at least 30 scientific hours, at least 12 live hours and no more than 33 hours in online or other non-live formats. The Rules adopt the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination as the licensing examination and allow an applicant who holds a license in good standing and is actively practicing in another state or province of Canada to apply by endorsement. For technicians, the Public Health Code bars practice without a license, and the Rules require a CVTEA-accredited program, a passing Veterinary Technician National Examination score and 15 hours of continuing education in three years. The Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association says it has served veterinarians across Southeast Michigan since 1917 and posts continuing education events, and Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine says it offers DVM and graduate programs, a residency program, a veterinary technician program and continuing education. O*NET OnLine, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics 2025 wage data, lists the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn median annual wage above Michigan’s median for veterinarians, veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants, and above the national median for technicians and assistants but just under it for veterinarians. The same state rules apply to every Detroit employer, so confirm them before the Detroit search starts.
Market context is attributed to Michigan Public Health Code, section 333.18813 (renewal and continuing education), Michigan veterinary medicine administrative rules, R 338.4901 to R 338.4933, Michigan veterinary technician administrative rules, R 338.4971 to R 338.4993, Michigan Public Health Code, section 333.18811 (license required, technician limits), Michigan Public Health Code, section 333.7303 (controlled substance license), Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, BluePearl Pet Hospital Southfield, Ann Arbor Animal Hospital, O*NET OnLine veterinarian wages by area, O*NET OnLine veterinary technician wages by area and O*NET OnLine veterinary assistant wages by area. These are third-party and state sources, not BEGHR claims.
Use the Michigan MILARA license lookup for the relevant professional record. Michigan licenses veterinarians and veterinary technicians through the Board of Veterinary Medicine in the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Assign a person to verify license status and the expiration date, record the verification date and resolve questions with the Department. The license lookup says its records are updated once a day and that users must decide whether the information is accurate, current and complete. Check any additional specialty credentials required by the employer with the issuing organization.
For a candidate moving from another state, review the Michigan veterinary medicine administrative rules. Do not treat an out-of-state license or a preferred start date as confirmation that Michigan requirements are satisfied. Michigan’s rules adopt the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination, and an applicant by endorsement must hold a license in good standing and be actively practicing in another state or province of Canada. The Department determines eligibility and timing; BEGHR does not issue licenses.
For technician rules and renewal, see the Michigan veterinary technician administrative rules and section 333.18813 of the Public Health Code on renewal and continuing education.

Veterinary recruitment coverage
A Detroit veterinary search works best when the hospital address comes before the city label. Detroit neighborhoods, the separate cities that Detroit surrounds or borders, and the suburbs in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw counties are different workplaces under different local governments. Business Executive Group uses the employer’s role, schedule and location to scope a permanent search.
Name the street address, municipality and county, and keep Detroit neighborhoods separate from neighboring cities. Hamtramck and Highland Park are separate cities that the Census Bureau’s boundary data shows touching only Detroit and each other, Northville is listed in both Oakland and Wayne counties, and Canton and Clinton are charter townships rather than cities. Coverage on this site is limited to Michigan hospitals that fall under the Michigan Board of Veterinary Medicine.
Midtown, Corktown, Palmer Park, Jefferson Chalmers and Brightmoor are separate neighborhoods in the City of Detroit’s Current City of Detroit Neighborhoods data, which lists 205 neighborhoods across seven council districts. The city compiled those boundaries with community groups, so a neighborhood name can differ from the name a hospital uses on its sign. Give the street address and the neighborhood Detroit assigns before describing a Detroit role, and list any second site on its own line.
Hamtramck and Highland Park are separate Wayne County cities that the Census Bureau’s boundary data shows touching only Detroit and each other. Dearborn and Grosse Pointe Farms are separate Wayne County cities on the western and eastern edges of Detroit. Each city has its own government and ordinances, so name the city and street address for each role and keep any Detroit site on a separate line.
Livonia, Westland, Plymouth, Northville and Canton sit west of Detroit. Livonia, Westland and Plymouth are cities in Wayne County, Canton is a charter township in Wayne County, and Northville is one city that the Census Bureau lists in both Oakland and Wayne counties. The city of Plymouth and Plymouth Township are separate governments, so give the municipality, county and street address for each role.
Southfield, Farmington Hills, Novi, Troy, Auburn Hills, Birmingham and Rochester Hills are incorporated cities in Oakland County, north and northwest of Detroit. Oakland County Animal Control states that it patrols 47 municipalities, and some cities such as Southfield also employ their own animal warden. Troy touches two Macomb County cities and Southfield touches Detroit, so use the hospital’s street address and not the county name alone.
Warren, Sterling Heights and Clinton Township are in Macomb County, northeast of Detroit. Warren and Sterling Heights are cities, Clinton is a charter township, and Macomb County Animal Control states that it does not license dogs for residents of Warren or Sterling Heights. Warren touches Detroit, so a Warren address and a Detroit address are different employers under different local rules.
Ann Arbor is a city in Washtenaw County, outside Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, so it has a different county government from every other place on this site. It falls under the same Michigan Board of Veterinary Medicine as Detroit. Treat an Ann Arbor hospital as its own search rather than a variation on a western Wayne County one, and list any Canton or Westland site on a separate line.
